Leaving Home To Start A Brand New Life Abroad: Real adventures begin at the end of your comfort zone

So this is the feeling of leaving home off to the airport? Of not knowing when you’ll be back again. The bittersweet atmosphere of seeing your 70L backpack ready to be picked when it’s time to leave. And there’s something melancholy between the 4am air and your mum sitting on the sofa in your living room. Her eyes looks sad, but her spirit is happy because, damn, you’re on your way to a completely different life. A whole new better life.

Leaving my beautiful country, the Philippines, is the prize I had to pay for dreaming big of a better life. Leaving everything behind, the place I call home and all the people close to my heart is something I’d planned long time ago. But I never thought this would happen so soon. So here I am, waiting for my 10:55 flight bound to another country. OMG I can’t believe that in a few sleeps away, I will be waking up in a different land. Into a different view of the sun and I will be making brand new memories with different people.

What was once just a dream is shaping up into a reality and it’s painful, exciting and scary all at the same time.

For the past 20 days, I tried my best to meet my family and my closest friends. All those hugs and kisses, though. Those are the things that I will look back to and will cherish when homesickness met me somewhere in the future.

I can’t explain the feels, friends. As I write this blog post, I am seated on a bench inside NAIA Terminal 1. It’s official. I broke up the news to my friends and family that I’m peacing out to move to a foreign country. I summoned all my courage to pack my bag and leave everything behind.

Even though I still don’t know what tomorrow is in store for me, the future looks so bright for an island boy, I just gotta wear my shades in the city. For the mean time.

But anyway, with all these blues from my heart as I bid goodbye, here I am ready to conquer bigger challenges of the world.

Dreaming big,

Marron xx
